Breadth 1: Mask

Breadth 1: Insecurities

For my first breadth piece I decided to chose the human figure and focus specifically on the face. My primary point of interest includes filters, effects, and actions. In addition, it includes color, texture, and contrast. I first wanted to focus on the idea of insecurities within the face. To do so, I first did half of my subject's face with full coverage makeup. I did this because people typical hide their insecurities with masks such as makeup. I chose the color red for the eye and lips because it pops out and the color is associated with confidence, strength, and power. I initially tried to use lighting to split the face in half, making the half without makeup (the natural side) darker. I ended up editing both sides in photoshop to accentuate both side's features using color, contrast, and texture. The filters and effects really express the difference amongst both sides. I personally relate to this because every time I go to school I am in the habit of putting makeup on. I never go to school without any on because I am so use to waking up and as part of my routine, I put it on. However, I see other teenage girls not able to go out of the house without makeup. It is very evident how insecurities have the power to take over an individual. In order for other girls to feel "confident" they believe that they must put a mask on. The mask resembling makeup. This is why I wanted to create a piece about this topic because many girls can relate.

First Day College: Chaos

BFirst Day Collage: Chaos

When I walk into school on the first day of a new year I see crowded hallways and excited children. My collage represents chaos because on the first day everyone is running around, talking to their friends, and in a hurry to find their classes. I ripped the magazine of the crowded animals to represent the hallways. I then covered that with orange paper because when you're walking in the hallways the first day you get overwhelmed and excited and therefore can not see everyone and everything that is happening. That is also represented through the holes in the image as well. The edges of the collage is rough and missing.
