Concentration 2: Memories
Research of My Subject Matter
In order to get started I interviewed my subject, Jeanette. I asked her numerous questions about a past significant memory. Below are Jeanette's responses to each of my questions.

Image Examples
From listening to Jeanette's memory, I had decided to do a milk bath. I then researched some examples of a milk bath which helped me further my idea. I also researched different poses, and methods in order to create a milk bath.

Online Research
After that, I researched steps to creating a milk bath. I looked up the best ingredients that will make the water look foggy like milk. I ended up using six cans of evaporated milk and it worked great! I also wanted to use flowers as a representation of the flowers her grandma had around the house. From there I researched whether I should use real or fake flowers and it turned out that fake flowers would sink. Therefore, I went out and bought a dozen roses. Also, lighting played a huge part in creating the perfect atmosphere.

Photographs
Then, I began taking pictures of Jeanette in a bath full of milk. We first filled the bath with water and then added the six cans of evaporated milk. We stirred it for a couple minutes as well. After she got in, we picked the rose petals off of the roses and placed them around her. I took a variety of different poses so that I could decide later on which best showcased my vision. Below is a contact sheet (in google photos) of all my photos I took for this project.

Process
First, we filled the bath with six cans of evaporated milk. Then we had Jeanette get in the bathtub and added the roses while she was in. After taking numerous pictures with different poses, lighting, and angles, I narrowed them down to some of my favorites. I then cropped them in photoshop to the dimensions that best fit the each photograph. After that, I edited all of the photographs in light room. I first found a setting that I liked and then I set it as a preset. After that, I was able to use that preset for all of the photographs and changed some of the settings to a degree to fit the lighting of each piece. Doing this, brought out the color of the red that resembles her grandmother and the milk that resembles Jeanette's memories.
Reflection
For my second concentration piece, I wanted to interview Jeanette. I have known Jeanette since middle school and wanted to get to know her better. Therefore, I asked her about her most significant memory. She explained to me that she has never met her grandma but has always thought about the person she was and the person she could have been. Jeanette then goes on to explain that the place/thing that makes her feel most connected to her grandma was at a pond near her house. This memory makes her feel sad because she never truly got to witness how good of a woman her grandma was. In addition, Jeanette's grandmother always had her house filled with roses. Therefore, I wanted to fill the bathtub with these roses as well. From listening to Jeanette's memory about her grandmother, I decided to do a milk bath. The bath represents the pond in which Jeanette feels most connected to her grandma. I then decided to add milk because the vision she has of her grandma is foggy/unclear in a sense since she has never met her. In addition, I decided to add red rose petals as well because Jeanette's grandma always had roses around her house. Also, from this I had Jeanette put on red lipstick as a way to connect to her grandmother through the red rose petals. This color of red resembles unity. I wanted to showcase the sadness that this memory brings Jeanette. Therefore, she is looking away, down, or directly at the camera in a serious matter as if she is reflecting on the memory herself. I enjoyed exploring a different type of photography, that being a milk bath. Since my bathtub was small and had a built-in sliding door, it was very difficult to get Jeannette positioned in different ways and to be able to snap good photographs of her. I believe I could have improved by showcasing even more positions and adding in more elements in the bath as well. However, I am pleased with how it turned out.
